INSPIRED POETRY ABOUT AND FOR THE LIVING GODDESS SEKHMET

Krys Bottrill shares something she wrote during the first week of April, 1999:

Sa Sekhem Sahu, Sa Sekhem Sahu, Sa Sekhem Sahu,

Lady of the Living Fire,

Lady of the Cleansing Flame,

Come Thou, blazing with the Sun,

And purify me.

Burn out that which is evil,

That which is outworn,

That which is ego.

I open myself to Thee

Without reservation.

I hide nothing,

For nothing can be hidden

From the Eye of Ra.

Cleanse and refine my being,

That I may worship Thee

With a pure heart,

That I may count myself

Among Thy children.

Sa Sekhem Sahu, Sa Sekhem Sahu, Sa Sekhem Sahu.

Krys

SheritRa wrote this on March 24th, 1999 in kind of a haze. She was at the park by thewater and having just said a prayer to Her, began to write. She didn't remember what she wrote until the request came to share Sekhmet poetry:

Today I dream

I am awake, so utterly awake

I think of She who will come

She whom we owe.

Sekhmet, Divine One of Truth

Wash it away...

Sekhmet, mother and child.

Save me from me

What will come?

Futures and seasons

white banks of sand and snow

Together we will become one

Again and for the last time

Today we must become

one with ourselves.

Sekhmet from within;

Sekhmet from without

A new day dawns,

and it will shun this darkness.

SheritRa, who used to think she was a little moon
and wondered why she could not find her light.

Here is an inspired poem that Jen Llyne Burton wrote to honor Sekhmet on Oct. 31, 1998

PAEAN TO SEKHMET

(Upon Balance)

A sharp smile from the darkness

presaging death --

how can that which is fatal

contain so much humor and love?

Death plays a role that is needful;

it frees us of burdens,to fly.

We must learn to release that which we have

in order to gain what is destined,

to fulfill desires whose births are yet unseen;

so is Her cruelty Her deepest compassion.

Thus, it is when Her contradictions find balance

that She is Her most blindingly radiant,

the light striking Her face from infinity.

It reveals a being totally objective,

untouched by the morality dreamt by mortal things,

a tool of the Universe

remorselessly willing to do what is called for.

The compunction is so deeply woven in the fibers of Her being

its attainment cannot even be called an effort.

Yet this same state is so far beyond

the capabilities of these souls we name human

that many do not even deem it worth praise.

Such would soften Her aspect,

saying the beauty of Her soul is too harsh;

I say let it shine untrammelled.

Rejoice in the nativity

as a terrible beauty is born.

Jen Llyne Burton, 1998.

FROM RAVEN JOY:

Sekhmet

give me strength

to do

what I have to do

Sekhmet

give me strength

to keep my

heart fire burning

to remember

who I am

Sekhmet

give me strength

to follow my compassion

to see the world

as it is

Sekhmet

give me strength

to love

to give

to be who I am

and walk

my path with you

my heart fire burning

in truth

in love

Raven Joy, 1999

Sinuhe says she is not usually given to writing poetry, but in a moment of inspiration she I wrote the following and would like to share it with others of like mind:

FROM A CUB TO A LION

I wonder why I have to die,

a little death every day.

Fear consumes me, people use me,

I must grow stronger so I pray:

Sekhmet great, Sekhmet wise,

teach me how to live my life,

hold my head strong,

find courage to right wrong,

and face the challenges that are thrown my way.

Everyday I shed a tear,

as I try to find my way from fear.

Mother Sekhmet, Lady in Red,

teach me how to deal with dread.

Golden goddess, Eye so bright,

protect me as I walk my night.

Give to me the sword you use,

that I may find the power to choose.

Suffuse me with your love today,

heal me, hold me, show me the way.

My pain my fear you burn away,

anger can't touch me, indecision can't stay.

In your palm you hold me, and then you say:

"Rise my child and face this day".

Paths stretch out before me, and I am whole.

Firmly within myself I know:

I cannot fail as long as I keep tryin'.

Thank you Sekhmet,

for teaching this cub how to be a lion.
